Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using BillSlate (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. License to Use the App

Beacon Light Investments grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use BillSlate on devices you own or control, for your own business or personal use, subject to the App Store's or Google Play's applicable usage rules.

3. Your Content

Everything you enter into BillSlate — clients, logged work days, invoices, tax labels, and notes — is yours. It's stored locally on your device, and any backup you create is encrypted and saved to a destination you choose. We do not access, host, or claim any ownership over your content. 4. Free Tier and Purchases

BillSlate is free to use with the following limits: 1 active client, up to 10 logged work days, 1 active invoice, full PDF export, the basic aging view, a home-screen widget, and unpaywalled backup, restore, and delete. "BillSlate Pro" removes these caps and unlocks unlimited clients, days, and invoices; partial payment tracking; overdue reminders; client statement PDFs; an accountant CSV export; a tax set-aside estimate; and an enhanced widget with totals.

Pro is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time "Lifetime" purchase that unlocks Pro permanently with no recurring charge. Subscriptions automatically renew until cancelled; you can manage or cancel a subscription at any time through your App Store or Google Play account settings. All purchases are processed by Apple or Google, and refunds are governed entirely by the App Store's or Google Play's own refund policies — Beacon Light Investments does not process payments or refunds directly.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App except as permitted by law, and not to use the App for any unlawful purpose, including generating fraudulent invoices or misrepresenting amounts owed to third parties.

6. Not Accounting, Tax, or Payment Services

BillSlate is a billing and record-keeping tool. It is not an accounting, bookkeeping, or tax-preparation product. It does not connect to any bank account, does not process payments, and does not move money — it only records, at your own instruction, that a payment has occurred. Any tax set-aside estimate or exported figures BillSlate produces are calculations based on numbers you entered, not tax or legal advice, and do not substitute for a qualified accountant or tax professional. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of information you enter and for your own tax and legal compliance.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. Beacon Light Investments does not warrant that invoices generated by the App will be accepted by any particular client, bank, or authority.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Beacon Light Investments shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App — including any loss of data stored on your device, lost income, or disputes with your clients arising from invoices created using the App.

9. Changes to the App or These Terms

We may update the App or these Terms from time to time. If these Terms change materially, the "Effective date" above will be updated. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

10. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it or cancelling any active subscription. Data already stored locally on your device remains yours; use "Delete All My Data" in Settings to remove it.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to Beacon Light Investments' place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction requires otherwise.

12. Apple App Store Terms

If you obtained the App from Apple's App Store, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Beacon Light Investments only, not Apple, and Apple has no responsibility for the App or its content. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support for the App. In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the App; Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product liability claims, any claim that the App fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, or claims under consumer protection law. Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, settling, or discharging any claim that the App infringes a third party's intellectual property rights. You agree to comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the App. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance, Apple has the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
